Jon Zameza, member of the group “The Uski´s”, came to our school in January, he came as a teacher. We made him some questions about his group and their music.
P.6 ss.:- Hello Jon, can we make some questions to you?
Jon Za.:- Yes, of course.
Antton.:- What year did you form your group?
Jon Za.:-I think it was in 2002. We like singing very much, in our families we sing in the celebrations, in our family parties,…,we have musical instruments from other countries…
Jon.- How did you choose the name of the group? What is the meaning of “The Uski´s”?
Jon Za.:-It is a joke, a play on words, we changed the Basque word “uzkia” into the “basquenglish” “The Uski’s”.
Markel.- In what language do you sing?
Jon Za.:-In our first CD we sang in Basque, in Spanish and in English, but in the other ones we sing only in Basque because our music company recommended to sing in one language.
Bego.- How many CDs have you recorded?
Jon Za.:-We have recorded 3 CDs. “We are The Uski’s”, “Itsosun zarati” and “Barikun”.
We recorded the first one at home in our P.C. and we sold it in our area (Ea, Ibarrangelu, Elantxobe…) in the bars, to our friends… But the second and the third ones in Mungia, with “Lamiña Produkzioak”.
Idoia.- What is your most famous CD?
Jon Za.:- “Itxosun Zarati” was very famous, but I think that “Barikun” is very famous too.
Gotzon.- When are you going to publish your next CD?
Jon Za.:-Now we are preparing new songs. I think that we will publish it in the summer of 2009, but we need a lot of money to make a CD.
If people don’t buy CDs, if they copy them or download from the internet, it is more difficult to produce a new CD.
